Paddy Costigan is the Director of Understanding Society, based in the Society & Social Change team at NatCen, where he leads a large team of research, computing and operations staff working on the project. Paddy has spent nearly 40 years working in survey research and joined NatCen in 1990 following an earlier career in the commercial sector.
Understanding Society is the world-leading household longitudinal study, following the lives of c.40,000 households and 100,000 people throughout the UK. NatCen carries out Understanding Society for the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex, and we are responsible for the overall delivery of the survey.
Before taking on his present role, Paddy held a variety of senior management positions and also had responsibility for many of NatCen's other large and complex projects.
