Helen Porter

Helen Porter

Researcher

Crime, Justice & Attitudes

Helen Porter is a Researcher on the Social Attitudes Team. Helen has previously completed a PhD at the University of Liverpool utilising ethnographic methods to investigate issues of gender, youth and inequality in Nicaragua. Whilst at Liverpool she taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Sociology and Politics and Gender in Latin America. Following her PhD she was a researcher on the LSE/Guardian project ‘Reading the Riots’ examining the impact of the riots in Liverpool.

More recently, at the Centre for Mental Health, she worked on a longitudinal mixed-method evaluation of a community psychology project. The project aimed to provide community-based mental health and well-being support to young people who might offend or are in gangs. The evaluation utilised her experience of ethnographic methods, interviewing and surveys with hard-to-reach young people.
