Rukmen is a Senior Researcher (Analyst) at NatCen Social Research and was previously a postdoctoral researcher at King’s College London at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She was awarded a PhD in Psychology from UCL Institute of Education funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Jacob’s Foundation/International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development. She also spent three years teaching in an inner city secondary school in London prior to embarking on her academic studies.
Rukmen specialises in the use of quantitative techniques to examine the health and educational inequalities of vulnerable children across the life-course primarily using the UK birth cohort studies and administrative data in her research. Rukmen has presented her research at several national and international academic conferences and provided consultancy for the OECD and the Royal Society of Arts.
