Frequently asked questions
Who is paying for the study?
Half of the funding for the first twelve years of the study has come from a number of UK government departments. These include the Department of Health, Department for Transport, Department for Work and Pensions, Department for Communities and Local Government, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Office for National Statistics and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. The other half of the funding for the study has been provided by the National Institute on Aging in the United States. They are also funding a parallel study in the United States (the Health and Retirement Study) and we are learning a lot from comparing results across the two countries.
