Who is carrying out the study?

The study is being carried out by the National Centre for Social Research on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions, Department for Children, Schools and Families (formerly known as Department for Education and Skills), and Department for Transport.

Each of these departments employs researchers who use Families and Children Study data to make sure policy makers are fully informed of the details of what family life in Britain is really like.

In addition to these Government Departments, the data (and reports from the study) are also made available to people in the wider community, such as universities, so that additional research can be done.

In this way, the Government can ensure that the most is made of all the data collected. It also means that people with a wide-range of perspectives on British Society can offer their own interpretations of the data.
