NatCen Social Research appoints four new trustees

The leading social research institute, NatCen Social Research, has appointed four new members of its Board of Trustees.
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Professor Sir Robert Burgess said: "These four new Trustees are a welcome addition to the NatCen Board of Trustees. They add considerable commercial, IT and communications expertise to the Board while also further strengthening its research credentials. NatCen has a charitable mission to make research work for society and the knowledge and experience these new Trustees bring will enhance our ability to deliver on this mission."
The new Trustees joined NatCen's existing board of eight trustees on 1st October.
Biographies of the new trustees:
Barbara Beckett is an experienced marketing professional having held executive roles with a range of corporates, including BAA, WH Smith and Forte. Barbara now provides mentoring and coaching to senior marketing professionals in the consumer sector. Barbara brings commercial experience as well as a robust marketing and communications background.
Nicolas Deyes is currently Director of Information Management and Technology at the London School of Economics and Political Science. An IT professional, he has previous held technology roles at a range of organisations including the National Policing Improvement Agency, East Sussex County Council and Southern Water. Nick therefore brings experience of working in environments where technology is critical to efficiency improvements and innovation.
Barbara Noble is an established research practitioner and statistician having worked in the Government Statistical Service for over 20 years until her retirement in 2011. Barbara brings a commitment to methodological rigour and the use of evidence in developing and monitoring public policy, as well as an understanding of the research challenges we face and how the research craft is changing to meet the needs of clients.
James Thickett is Director of Nations and Market Developments at Ofcom, responsible for Ofcom's consumer and industry research. Before joining Ofcom in 2006, James was Controller of Business Strategy at the BBC, and previously held a number of senior strategy and marketing roles at The Walt Disney Company. James brings considerable experience of marketing and communications as well as strategy from both the public and commercial sectors.
