Alice is a Senior Researcher within the Research
Department. She joined the department in January 2002 and
worked initially in the department for three years. During
that time she worked on studies for different government
departments, conducting interviews and/or focus groups with a wide
range of respondents including offenders, probation staff, health
care professionals and people on Incapacity Benefit.
For just over a year, Alice worked as a Research Fellow at the
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, leading the
qualitative element of a collaborative project evaluating the
reconfiguration of acute hospital services. During this time, she
was involved in the delivery of teaching programmes for
postgraduate students. She returned to the Research Department in
March 2006 and has worked on the following projects: looking at
older people who have experienced some form of abuse, exploring
decision-making around birth registration with unmarried parents
and gathering views of the 'social evils' of today for Joseph
Rowntree Foundation.
Alice read Russian and Soviet Studies at Manchester University and
has lived and worked in Russia. Subsequently, she trained as
a nurse and worked in oncology and community nursing before moving
into research.
