
Margaret is a Research Director in the Health and Wellbeing Team and works mainly on ELSA (English Longitudinal Study of Ageing). She is also involved in developing NatCen's work in the area of social care in collaboration with academics in the UK and Europe. She joined NatCen in 1998, initially working on a wide variety of ad hoc projects, mainly in the areas of education and law. She then worked on the FRS and on the Health Survey for England. Between 2007 and 2011 she worked in NatCen's Questionnaire Development and Testing Hub where she worked on a range of cognitive question testing projects, covering, among things, disability and health, material deprivation among older people, and social care for older people. Margaret has a PhD in Social Statistics.
