Researcher
Stephen is Head of Evaluation Research at NatCen. Previously, he held posts at the Policy Studies Institute (where he remains Visiting Fellow) and the Institute for Employment Studies. For 13 years Stephen worked in government, holding research positions in a variety of government departments including the Department for Work and Pensions, Cabinet Office and Office for National Statistics. He is interested in evaluation methodology; specifically impact evaluation, particularly experimental methods of programme evaluation (RCTs). Stephen is also interested in the analysis of complex quantitative data using multivariate methods. Over the course of his career, Stephen has worked for a wide variety of clients including a range of UK government departments, the European Commission, Money Advice Service, Food Standards Agency, NSPCC, and others. Stephen holds a masters degree in Economics from the University of Sussex.
