Year 1 was initiated by the Scottish Executive Education Department. Years 2 and 3 were initiated by the Children, Young People and Social Care Directorate of the Scottish Government.

Data archive

Data for the first three sweeps of GUS are stored at the UK Data Archive, and can be downloaded free with an Athens password. Data for each cohort is archived seperately.

Data security

Answers are treated in strict confidence in accordance with the Data Protection Act. We take great care to protect the confidentiality of the information we are given. In reporting results, we only look at patterns of responses across the population as a whole – not at the responses of individuals. No information is released from the survey that could identify individual participants or families.
