• Health Survey for England 2005
The health of older people
Commissioned by University College London (UCL)

Summary

In 2005 the Health Survey for England focused on the health of older people. The findings
from this survey built on information that was obtained in the 2000 survey.

All participants were asked core modules of questions, including topics such as fruit and vegetable consumption, alcohol consumption and smoking. In addition to this, older adults were also asked modules of questions about cardiovascular disease, the use of health, dental and social care services, chronic diseases and quality of care.

Nurses recorded key measurements from adults and children, such blood pressure and waist and hip circumference. Urine samples were collected from adults who gave their consent and those aged over 65 were asked to perform physical function tests and give a blood sample.
