About this study
Leisuretime: Lottery and Recreation Study is an important study that aims to find out how many people take part in activities like lotteries, bingo and football pools.
Our researchers would like to speak with people to find out what they think about these activities, whether they spend their leisure time in this way or not. You can read more about participating in this study here. The study is part of a range of research on leisure and gambling in the UK.
Similar studies have been conducted in 1999 and 2007 and one of our main aims is to see how participation in these activities has changed in the last ten years.
The study is funded by the Gambling Commission who have responsibility for regulating many of these activities. You can find out more about how this study is used by the Gambling Commission, as well as academics and charities here.
Potential policy impact
The results of the survey will be used by the Gambling Commission and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to provide advice to Government about participation in gambling and the prevalence of problem gambling in Britain.
Methods
The survey is a nationally representative survey of adults aged 16 and over living in private households. Participants answer most of the questions by typing their answers into a laptop after answering a short face-to-face questionnaire with an interviewer.
