What is a normal retirement age?

This is the age (or age range) over which it is normal for people to retire. This may be determined by policy or may just be a cultural norm in an organisation or at a national level.

What is the DRA?

DRA stands for Default Retirement Age. Introduced in the Equality (Age) legislation and set at an age of 65, DRA has made employer mandatory retirement ages below age 65 unlawful unless, in their particular case, an employer can justify a lower age.

What is the 'right to request'?

This is the process by which individuals make a request to their employer to continue working beyond normal retirement age. Employers are obliged to offer employees this opportunity between 6 and 12 months prior to their retirement date.
