Information for employees who have been eligible for Shared Parental Leave and Pay or flexible working

What’s involved?

Taking part will involve a face-to-face interview with a researcher from NatCen or a telephone interview if you prefer. Face-to-face interviews would take place at your workplace, in a private setting. Interviews will last 45 minutes for those who have taken up Shared Parental Leave or Flexible Working, and 30 minutes for those who were eligible for one of these policies but did not take it up.

We will ask you about:

  • Your work and personal circumstances
  • Your views of your workplace Shared Parental Leave or Flexible Working policies
  • Your motivations and decision to request/not request Shared Parental Leave or Flexible Working
  • If you have used Shared Parental Leave or Flexible Working, how this has affected different areas of your life

The discussions will be confidential. Outside of the individuals taking part at your workplace, the identities of those taking part will be known only to members of the NatCen research team and will not be shared with BEIS or anyone else.

If you have taken Shared Parental Leave, we would also like to interview your partner in a short 30-minute interview, about their views and experiences of the policy. We will ask you about the best way to set up this interview.

Why have I been selected to take part?

Your employer agreed for your organisation to be selected as a case study for our research. We have asked your employer to nominate employees that have either taken up Shared Parental Leave or flexible working or were eligible to request such arrangements.

What will I receive for taking part?

As a token of our appreciation for your time, you will receive a voucher of £20.
