What’s involved?

Interviewer

Taking part would involve taking part in an interview with a NatCen researcher.

We will be conducting two types of interview:

1.      Case studies with early years settings

Our case studies will involve interviewing two or three people working at the same nursery, pre-school or other early years setting. We will interview at least one frontline practitioner and one manager, to gather different perspectives on the setting’s approach to recruiting, retaining and developing staff.

If you are taking part as part of a case study, your interview will be conducted by telephone and will last around 45 minutes to an hour.

2.      In-depth interviews with early years professionals

We will also be conducting longer interviews with individual early years professionals. In these interviews we will use a “timeline” to look back at your journey into and through the early years profession. We will ask you about any early years qualifications that you have achieved, key factors that led you to enter and stay in the profession, and your future plans.

These interviews will take place face-to-face, in your home or place of work or another place that suits you, and will last up to 90 minutes.

We will explain more about which type of interview you have been selected to take part in when we contact you directly. Interviews will take place between March and June 2019 and, if you agree to take part, a researcher at NatCen will arrange a time and place for the interview that suits your schedule.
