- Who are NatCen?
50 years experience
NatCen have been carrying out high quality social research for over 50 years. We are a non-profit organisation, independent of all government departments and political parties.
Uncovering real opinions
We are commissioned by government and charities to uncover the real views of people in Britain today. What we find out is used to inform policy and make a difference to the lives of people across the nation.
Helping the nation
We are a charity and aim to share with you the important things we find out. So our research does not just help our clients, it’s used by other organisations trying to improve life in the UK.
- Why have I been contacted?
We’d like you to take part in one of our surveys. These surveys are commissioned by government and charities to uncover the real views of people in the UK today.
- How have you got my address?
We’ve chosen your address at random from the Post Office's list of addresses, which is publicly available. Using this technique means that everyone has an equal chance of taking part in a survey, which means we get a truly representative picture of everyone in the country.
Your address can’t be replaced by another one, as this would bias the results.
- What’s the point of your surveys?
What we find out is used to inform policy and make a difference to the lives of people across the nation.
We are a charity and the information we collect is publicly available. So it’s not just helping our clients, it’s used by other organisations trying to improve life in the UK.
- Do I have to take part?
Taking part is entirely up to you. We’re just asking that you spare a little time to share your thoughts and opinions. We know your time is precious, but your input really does make a difference. With your support we can help government and charities make the right decisions about the big issues.
- Who are your interviewers?
All of our interviewers are employed and trained by us. They all carry photographic ID cards and have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau). We welcome any feedback you have about your experience with our interviewers.
- Are my details dealt with confidentially?
We will treat the information you give us in the strictest confidence under GDPR. The results collected are used for research purposes only. You will never receive any junk mail as a result of speaking to us. We never pass on your details to other organisations for commercial purposes.
- Do I need to prepare for the interview?
There’s no need to prepare for the interview. You don’t need any special knowledge, we just want to hear about what you think of a range of issues that affect us all. Most people agree to be interviewed and enjoy taking part.
