Evaluation of Lives Not Knives (LNK) Educate
LNK Educate aims to prevent young people being drawn into crime and violence by developing skills that could reduce the likelihood of exclusion and involvement in offending. The intervention combines teaching resources for delivery to children aged 9 to 14 with intensive mentoring delivered by LNK for some young people.
We are carrying out this research for the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) to understand how LNK Educate is working so far.
LNK Educate is an intervention for children aged 9 to 14 in schools in the Croydon area. It is designed to prevent young people being drawn into crime and violence. To do this, LNK Educate provides resources for school teachers to deliver workshops and regular lessons to classes, and LNK mentors provide 1:1 support for some children. The intention is to help children to develop skills and reduce the likelihood of exclusion and involvement in offending.
The overall aims of this research are to:
- assess how the programme is delivered, including what LNK staff, mentors, school teachers and children think about the programme;
- identify and test ways to assess the outcomes of the intervention; and
- measure early ‘distance travelled’ as a result of LNK.
