Information for primary schools
How can my school sign up for the evaluation?
The Education Officer will explain the Nature Friendly Schools programme and evaluation. If you wish to be involved, you sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) indicating that your school is willing to participate in the programme and evaluation. You will nominate a member of staff to be the NFS School Lead to coordinate the programme and the evaluation in your school.
What will the evaluation involve?
A NatCen interviewer will visit your school in Summer Term 2020 to complete the baseline questionnaire and during Summer Term 2021 to complete the endline questionnaire with 30 pupils. The questionnaire asks about pupil wellbeing, school engagement and views on the environment, and takes no longer than 30 minutes.
In a small number of schools, NatCen researchers will also conduct: an observation of outdoor learning activities, a focus group with 5-7 pupils, interviews with the NFS School Lead, and a staff survey. We will contact your school if you have been selected for this part of the evaluation.
Which pupils will participate in the evaluation?
Only 30 pupils will be involved in the evaluation. The NFS School Lead will select these pupils from Years 2-4. The Education Officer will provide the NFS School Lead with guidance on how to select them.
How will you deal with personal information about pupils and staff?
We will treat information collected about pupils and staff in the strictest confidence under the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2018 and GDPR. You can find out more about our credentials and who we are here and how we protect your personal information here.
