  • For assistance dog users

A key element of the DfT Inclusive Transport Strategy is to understand the experience of using taxis and private hire vehicles for those who rely on assistance dogs. We are conducting an online survey of assistance dog users to explore:

    - Reasons for using an assistance dog
    - Experience of using taxis and private hire vehicles
    - Experiences of being turned away from using taxis and private hire vehicles
    - Experiences of reporting or taking legal action against illegal refusals.

Your participation is completely voluntary, and you can participate anonymously.

If you do not feel able to take part online, we can arrange for you to take part in a telephone interview with one of our NatCen researchers.

The survey is designed to be screen reader compatible (including JAWS and NVDA) to assist the visually impaired.

  • For NatCen Opinion Panel members

We will invite you to take part in a survey about your travel experiences. You will be sent a link to the survey that you can complete online. If you do not to take part in the survey online, a NatCen interviewer will call you shortly after receiving the survey information and arrange to complete the questions over the phone.

  • For transport operators and local licensing authorities

We will be conducting research with transport operators and local licencing authorities to understanding how they are implementing or planning to implement actions relating to the Inclusive Transport Strategy (ITS) across their organisation including in training and complaints processes.

Participation is completely voluntary. If your organisation has been invited to take part in the research this will involve providing us with:

    - Organisational information, including information about current accessibility policies and procedures, and
    - Some transport operators will be invited to take part in a telephone interview to explore how you are implementing ITS actions, including any future plans to do so.

In 2023 further research will be undertaken with transport operators and local licencing authorities to explore how ITS actions have been implemented. This will involve telephone interviews with a range of staff in different roles across your organisation.
