About the M1 surveys

NatCen Social Research (NatCen) and AECOM have been commissioned by National Highways, formerly known as Highways England, to carry out research with drivers in the South and West Yorkshire areas. The aim of the research is to better understand experiences of driving on roads in this area, including on sections of the M1 motorway. Findings from the research will be used to inform National Highways’ planning for the future.

As part of this research we will be conducting two surveys:

1) One with drivers on the M1 conducted at local Motorway Service Areas

2) One with drivers living in areas near the M1 to understand experiences of local roads more generally
