Information on taking part

What is TACT?

TACT is a fostering and adoption agency which aims to secure permanent homes for all children and teenagers in care, by offering all children and families the same high levels of assessment, preparation, training, support and review regardless of legal status. TACT is implementing a range of activities to improve the fostering, adoption and permanency services.

Why are we evaluating TACT?

We have been asked to evaluate TACT by the Department for Education (DfE), which funds part of TACT’s work. We want to gain a deeper understanding of how effective TACT services are at achieving their aims, and what the outcomes are for children and families in Peterborough. We are also investigating how TACT services affect the skills and confidence of foster carers, special guardians, adoptive parents and other carers.

What does the evaluation involve?

In order to evaluate TACT in Peterborough, we will be inviting some parents/carers to take part in two short online surveys. The first survey will be circulated to parents/carers in Spring 2019, and it will ask questions about their contact with TACT services and the support received, and how parents/carers assess their skills and confidence levels. A second survey, circulated in 2020, will replicate the first survey allowing us to monitor responses over time.

No parents/carers or children will be identified – TACT and the DfE will not know who has taken part and NatCen will not identify anyone by name or in any other way. All of the answers to the surveys will be stored securely and only ever used anonymously.

Some parents/carers will also be invited to attend a group discussion, to share their views on TACT services. Again, no individuals will be identified from their involvement in the research or from what they say. Any quotes used will be completely anonymous.

How will you deal with my personal information?

We will treat the information you give us in the strictest confidence under General Data Protection Regulation law. You can find out more about our credentials and who we are here and how we protect your personal information here.

Why have I been selected to take part?

You have been selected to take part because you are a parent/carer who TACT should be supporting and so your views are important to understanding how TACT is working. You have not opted out of being contacted about this survey.

Why take part?

The study is very important, as the Department for Education (DfE) would really like to understand how the TACT service is working and whether it makes a difference to the children and parents/carers that are involved. The research findings will be used to review and develop the service.

We appreciate that people have a busy schedule, but we do hope those invited will take part. We are very keen to hear your thoughts and views on the service. We know your time is precious, but knowing what is going well and what needs to improve will make a difference to how TACT supports you.
